Sofia Airport has been operational since the 1930s, but underwent some recent expansion with the addition of the very modern Terminal 2 in 2009. Terminal 1 has a duty-free shop, food and beverage vendors, and banking facilities, while Terminal 2 offers additional shopping and dining as well as currency exchange booths. The two terminals are not an easy walk apart, but there is a free shuttle between them that runs every 30 minutes.
Getting to the Airport in Sofia
There is a regular public bus to Sofia Airport that takes approximately 30-40 minutes to arrive from the city center, depending on traffic. You can also travel by train to Sofia Airport by going to Mladost metro station and taking a shorter bus journey of around 10 minutes from there. A taxi to Sofia Airport is also a good option should you desire greater convenience, or if you have a lot of luggage with you. You should allow around half an hour travel time if arriving by taxi.
